Broccoli, Green Magic

$3.00

Mature Plant Size: 18-24″x18-24″
Days to Harvest: 55-60 days

Green Magic is a heat-tolerant hybrid broccoli producing smooth, tightly-domed blue-green heads with excellent uniformity, making it one of the more forgiving broccoli varieties for Austin’s fluctuating fall and spring temperatures.

At Flying Rabbit Farm, our Green Magic transplants are grown for strong heat tolerance and reliable head formation suited to Austin’s short cool seasons.

Care Instructions
Watering

Consistent, even moisture is essential for tight head formation
Water 2-3 times weekly, more in warm stretches

Fertilizing

Feed every 2-3 weeks with balanced organic fertilizer; side-dress at head formation

Pruning & Maintenance

Harvest the central head before florets loosen or yellow; side shoots continue producing afterward

Common Issues

Cabbage worms and loopers (use row cover or Bt)
Aphids
Poorly-formed heads if hit by extreme heat during bud initiation

Fall planting (transplanted in August for harvest into November) is generally the most reliable window in Austin
Green Magic’s heat tolerance makes it one of the better choices if warm weather lingers into the planting window

Seasonal Notes
Fall

Primary planting window; transplant in late summer for a fall/early winter harvest

Winter

Tolerates light frost; heads may slow in cold snaps

Spring

Secondary planting window; race to harvest before heat arrives

Summer

Not recommended; heat causes poor head formation

Best Time to Plant in Austin

Late summer for fall harvest (August-September); late winter for spring harvest (January-February)
Ideal soil temperatures: 55-75 F

Sun Requirements

Full sun
